Now that you understand the different types of gold contracts, we will show you how to actually invest in gold on the Brazilian Stock Exchange. Keep reading and see how it works.
Initially, you must have an account at an institution duly accredited to B3 , and that performs this type of operation. It is important that it has a complete investment platform, and that it provides professional platforms for you to monitor, analyze and manage your investments.
Modalmais, for example, is a digital bank that offers a solid and stable investment platform. Thus, you can have access to all the services that this type of institution offers, as well as make your applications safely and without headaches with high brokerage costs, platform instabilities, and other common problems in conventional banks.
Now, with access to your Home Broker , or another trading platform, access to obtain the current quote value of the asset. With the necessary amount to make the transaction, just contact our customer service, which will send the order to the trading desk.
To know the exact amount to be paid for the operation, however, without considering operating costs, observe the following example.
Let’s say you intend to trade a contract for 250 grams of gold, i.e. the OZ1D asset . Opening your platform, you saw that it is being quoted, for example, at R$ 334,500. As this contract is negotiated in reais per gram, with three decimal places, you must use the following formula:
Weight Represented By The Contract X Price Per Gram X Quantity Of Contracts
Following the example, the formula would look like this: 250 x 334,500 x 1 = BRL 83,625. The result of this operation would be the amount to be paid for the acquisition of the contract, that is, the operating volume.
Using a second example, now with an OZ2D fractional contract, suppose it is being quoted at R$334.950. Thus, applying the same formula, the result would be: 10 x 334.950 x 1 = R$ 3,349.50.
Of course, these were just examples, but it is important that you understand the calculation to know the amount you will pay for the acquisition of the contract.
In addition to the amount to be paid for acquiring the contract, that is, the operating volume, the operating costs related to each type of contract must also be taken into account. In the case of brokerage, for example, depending on the institution, it can reach up to around 1% of the operating volume, that is, the financial value generated in its operation.
In modalmais, the brokerage on operations with gold varies: for OZ1D, the brokerage follows the TOB table (Basic Operation Fee of B3), thus, the brokerage is 0.4% on the operating volume . As for OZ2D and OZ3D contracts, the value is fixed at just R$ 10 per contract.
Income Tax On Gold Futures Transactions
Although these rates are important, they are not the ones that most impact the value of your investment’s profitability. In negotiations with gold contracts, there is also an incidence of Income Tax , which can be compared to the same that is taxed on transactions with shares, since the rate levied on the capital gain obtained between the purchase and sale of the active, is 15% and only if monthly income exceeds R$ 20,000. In the case of individuals, if income does not exceed the amount mentioned in gold sales, collection is not necessary.
In the case of operations initiated and closed on the same day – known as day trade –, the rate of this tax is 20% on the net gain – that is, after considering other operating costs – on the sale of gold. It is important to make it clear that, unlike what happens when investing in gold through other types of products, such as investment funds , the collection of tax is the responsibility of the investor, and must be paid via DARF , at most until the last business day of the month following the month in which the negotiations took place.
